At Café L'Artiste we specialize in small-batch roasting, sourcing exceptional green coffees through trusted partners. Our selection includes unique origins such as China, Thailand, Australia, California, and many others. We are driven by the delight of uncovering hidden gems in the coffee world and sharing them with the community.

Why the Ant Logo?

Ants, especially in Caribbean coffee growing regions, are one of the many pollinators of coffee flowers! During a tour of a coffee estate in the Lesser Antilles, we noticed that there were lots of black ants crawling amongst the coffee plants and among the coffee flowers. Our guide informed us that black ants have a symbiotic relationship with coffee shrubs. Like the many bees, wasps, mosquitoes and other insects that visit coffee flowers, ants can transport pollen from flower to flower in their search for sugary nectar to consume. Later, coffee cherries that fall to the ground are broken down and eaten by the black ants. The nitrogen that ants ingest and subsequently secrete is absorbed by coffee leaves and can be transported throughout the shrub. (Nitrogen is essential to photosynthesis and overall plant growth!) Additionally, the tunnels that black ants form in the soil help to aerate it and facilitate oxygen, water, and other nutrients reaching the roots of the coffee shrubs.
